Great news just came in with the relaunch of the My Safe Florida Home program. Governor Ron DeSantis allocated $200 million to help residents fortify their houses against those pesky hurricanes. This program, which previously ran out of funds, is back and better than ever, offering financial aid to strengthen your home to combat hurricanes.

What's the Deal with My Safe Florida Home?

This program throws homeowners a financial lifeline in the form of grants. These grants can be used to upgrade windows, doors, and your roof – all crucial elements for keeping your home safe during a hurricane. Not only that, but you can also snag a free home inspection to pinpoint areas that might need extra attention.

They've Got a Track Record!

The My Safe Florida Home program isn't all talk and no action. Since it kicked off in 2022, the state has conducted a whopping 104,000 home inspections and approved over 38,000 grant applications, according to the Department of Financial Services. That's a lot of hurricane-ready homes.

Update

As of July 29, 2024, the My Safe Florida Home (MSFH) program still has grant money and is open to eligible applicants. However, the program has paused new inspection applications due to a lack of funding. The remaining funds will be used for final inspections and home-hardening grants. Homeowners who have already had their initial inspection can still apply for grants based on the new legislature guidelines. The new system prioritizes low-income and seniors.
